Gwendowlyn, Augustus, and Wallace

7 Mar

Recently I have become truly obsessed with knitting softies. They are very cute and so squishy! I found the patterns on Ravelry, and the Knitted Toy Box.

Allow me to introduce to you to…

Augustus!

His friends call him Gus. He is an adorable old gnome with a British accent and very polite manners. He is related to the hobbit. He has a odd sense of humor, and enjoys jokes about elephants and chickens. His family is very special because they are especially magical, due to faeries and other magical creatures in their family. Their  magical abilities show through each other in different ways. In Augustus’s case, his beard is the magical part of him. If you stroke it three times with your middle and index finger, and then tap your nose, with he same fingers, seven times, you will have released his magical powers. And you may or may not get a result. Another example is his cousin, Celeborn, has his magical powers on any shoes he wears.

And now, our next featured guest….

Gwendowlyn!

Gwendowlyn prefers to be called Wendy by acquaintances and friends, as Gwendowlyn takes quite a bit of time to say and she sometimes loses track of the topic of a conversation. Wendy is a a recently discovered species, possibly related to the penguin or ostrich, due to her non-existant flying abilities. She was discovered in Australia and speaks with wonderful accent. She also likes the company of koala bears and kangaroos, although she finds the koalas a bit slow and the kangaroos very chatty, and often self-absorbed. Wendy enjoys singing, acting, and dancing, although the last two are very close to impossible, taking her stitched on features, and lack of legs into account. She did, however, unerath a way to sing with her beak firmly closed. She enjoys science fair projects and doing algebra homework (For what reason, I know not.).

And, last, but certainly not least….

Wallace!

His friends call him Wally. Wally is a adorable turquoise whale who likes bagels and has a insane love for reading, along with break-dancing.  His favorite colors are orange and purple, though not together. He enjoys classical music, and his favorite composers are Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang A. Mozart. Wally has attempted to crochet a number of times, but finally gave up hope of ever crocheting after the loss of four hundred thirty-third crochet hook getting lost. He likes to photograph the sea and hopes to be a marine biologist when he is older.

These three are the best of friends and are all very pleased to meet you.

New project!

8 Feb
Now the joys of the road are chiefly these:
A crimson touch on the hard-wood trees;

A vagrant’s morning wide and blue,
In early fall, when the wind walks too;

A shadowy highway cool and brown,
Alluring up and enticing down

From rippled water to dappled swamp,
From purple glory to scarlet pomp;

The outward eye, the quiet will,
And the striding heart from hill to hill;

The tempter apple over the fence;
The cobweb bloom on the yellow quince;

The palish asters along the wood,–
A lyric touch of solitude;

An open hand, an easy shoe,
And a hope to make the day go through,–

Another to sleep with, and a third
To wake me up at the voice of a bird;

A scrap of gossip at the ferry;
A comrade neither glum nor merry,

Who never defers and never demands,
But, smiling, takes the world in his hands,–

Seeing it good as when God first saw
And gave it the weight of his will for law.

And oh, the joy that is never won,
But follows and follows the journeying sun,

By marsh and tide, by meadow and stream,
A will-o’-the-wind, a light-o’-dream,

The racy smell of the forest loam,
When the stealthy sad-heart leaves go home;

The broad gold wake of the afternoon;
The silent fleck of the cold new moon;

The sound of the hollow sea’s release
From stormy tumult to starry peace;

With only another league to wend;
And two brown arms at the journey’s end!

These are the joys of the open road–
For him who travels without a load.
I read this poem in school today, and I’m supposed to write about it. I think I’ll give my interpretation.
I think it refers to the happy things in life, and the wisdom and lessons that you learn as you get older.
My favorite line is the one about the easy shoe, the open hand, and hope to get you through. Maybe it’s talking about people that are easy to get along with?

Fingerless gloves pattern

25 Jan

I just finished my fingerless gloves!!! I decided to post the pattern here. These are knit in garter stitch, but I’m sure they could be knit in an alternate stitch, or maybe you could add cables.

Row 1: CO 18 sts

Row 2- 21: K

Row 22: BO*

Sew the sides together.

Make a thumb hole wherever your thumb fits in the glove, usually a little after halfway.

Ha, super easy. SUPER.

*Alternate finishing: Pick up 10 stitches from beginning and knit together and bind off the stitches from both sides together.

Bind off  4 stitches for the thumb hole.

Pick up the remaining 6 stitches from the beginning and bind off the stitches from both sides together.

The other one is a bit simpler: I myself did it the easy way.

New project!

15 Jan

I have completed one slipper!!!
I finished knitting one slipper a couple days ago and I have the second about halfway done. I’m posting this from my iPod, so I can’t add a picture right now, but I will asap.
I will be learning cable stitch and lace stitch very soon and I am very excited.
I know I’ve been pretty boring. I will be posting reviews of books I have read (lots) and other stuff too.
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while!!! I’ll post more often later!! I’m starting new projects, such as, bottle cap lockers and magnets (if u live in the area, collect bottlecaps for me!!! If you drink stuff in cans collect the little pop tabs that open the can for bracelets and necklaces, RECYCLABLE JEWELRY TO THE RESCUE!!) and Shackelbird Academy T-shirts. I’ve been feeling kind of shut up so I’m totally making messes and making stuff.
Bye!!!

It has glittery threads in it, but it’s hard to see in the photos.

See, I posted photos (finally)!!!!!!

I got the new yarn for my gloves. My goal is to get them done by Monday. At least.
